Nicolas Jackson has finally been taken off after a heroic 90 minutes battling for his team. He got huge applause in the stadium, and online there was plenty of praise too.
He’s not every fan’s cup of tea – and there are plenty of very reasonable arguments that he’s not got the finesse or eye for goal to lead the line for a Champions League winning Chelsea. But what nobody can doubt is his effort, and the other things he brings to the team.
He worked tirelessly for the full 90, going up and down and side to side pressing Jurgen Klopp’s team.
When his team had the ball, he was always making runs behind and stretching the game. He put a really physical Liverpool defence to the test.
He was unlucky that he had fractionally strayed offside when he swung in the cross that Raheem Sterling put away for the Blues for the disallowed goal.
You couldn’t have asked for more from him today, and it’s clear why Christopher Nkunku is finding it hard to force his way into the team as a starter.
