Before Kepa’s legendary incident with Maurizio Sarri in the 2019 League Cup final, we had a pretty good record at Wembley.
Since then, it’s 6 games and 6 defeats.
That was the first of a hattrick of League Cup losses, completed today against Liverpool.

There’s also the FA Cup games. Three agonising llosses in a row between 2020 and 2022.
We are apparently the first ever team to lose 6 consecutive finals at Wembley. And it certainly feels impossible anyone else could have suffered such a horror run.
This is one of those problems that only grows. Now it’s become 6, it feels inevitable that it becomes 7, and so on. The scars only grow deeper. You could almost see the psychological weight of the record hanging on the players as the minutes ticked by.
Our opposition were supposed to be the raw and nervy ones, but instead Chelsea looked frozen by the history that’s gone before them.
