Cole Palmer’s arrival at Chelsea this summer came right at the end of the summer window, and nobody was really sure what to make of it.
We were all expecting a striker to sign, so another attacking midfielder arriving was a little surprising.
Then there was the fee £40m for a player with just a handful of Premier League starts to his name. Of course since then he’s more than repaid that money with an exceptional season
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the i, the attacking midfielder said the fee had never bothered him:
“I didn’t even think about the fee when I moved,” he said.
“I just thought, ‘everyone’s talking about the fee, but they’ve not even seen me play’. They’ve seen me play a few times but no one’s actually seen me play. So I didn’t really listen to it.
We’re not surprised that he didn’t blink an eye. If there’s one thing that “Cold” Palmer is known for, it’s his demeanour, and he’s not the type to let things bother him.
At this point, £40m looks a bargain for a player who might go on to win signing of the season, and maybe more than that.
