Chelsea’s links to summer defender targets feel like they’ll never end, and with good reason.
Thiago Silva is on the way out, Trevoh Chalobah will likely join him, Wesley Fofana may never return and the rest of our options don’t yet convince as top tier players.
Links to Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande have bubbled up today, with Record in Portugal saying we’re keen on a €60m bid for him.
There are some reasons to be convinced and others not to be.
On the plus side, he’s very talented and 20 years old, and comes from a smaller league on a reasonable wage. That fits our scouting criteria to a tee.
On the negative side, all the evidence points to us struggling to spend much money this summer, and if we’re going to go hard after a striker, it seems impossible we dig up €60m for a talented but unproven player like him.
Let’s see if the rumours continue to grow in the months to come.
