Mauricio Pochettino defended himself earlier in the season by comparing himself to Jurgen Klopp, and was criticised for it, especially by fans.
Now he’s doing the same again to a degree by speaking about tomorrow night’s man in the opposite dugout, Eddie Howe.
in the embargoed section of his presser, Pochettino said that he hoped that the grumbling Chelsea fans would give him the patience that Magpies fans gave Howe.
“I hope one day here they support me in the same way they support him because I am here, I am the coach of Chelsea and I want to win as much as our fans,” the coach said.
As before, it’s just not a fair comparison. We just wish that Pochettino would focus on getting the players available to him playing well rather than endlessly comparing himself to other coaches who did just that.
The issue of not having support from his fans is simple. They will be happy if he wins, and they have already given him almost a full season of patience to build towards that. If he’s starting to lose them now, he can only blame himself.
