Conor Gallagher has admitted that the recent scoring streak he’s been on has felt like “a bit of a breakthrough.”
The 24 year old had struggled to find the back of the net this season but now has four goals in his last six games including last minute winners against Leeds and Crystal Palace.
Gallagher insists he isn’t doing anything different to earlier in the season and speaking in tonight’s match day programme said: “It’s definitely felt like a bit of a breakthrough, I’ve said it a number of times, I want to be a player that scores goals from midfield. I think I have the ability to do so, and I wasn’t able to do it so well earlier this season.”
“That might be to do with luck, or to do with myself, but to score four goals in the last few games has been brilliant and fills me with more confidence to hopefully go on and get some more.”
“I’ve been getting in the same positions all season, to be honest.”
“It’s really small margins but if you look back at our games, I’ve very often been getting in the same positions from where I’ve scored those few goals lately.”
“Thankfully, the boys have found me a few times and I’ve managed to score a few, but it’s all about consistency, continuing to do that and helping the team score more goals.”
The England internationals future has been subject to speculation with his current contract expiring in 2025 and there has yet to be a breakthrough in talks over a new deal.
Gallagher is a doubt for tonight’s game against Newcastle having had a virus last week.
