Djordje Petrovic has admitted he didn’t expect Cole Palmer to have the impact he has had this season.
Palmer has been a revelation for the Blues this season following his move from Manchester City last summer.
The 21 year old has quickly established himself as a key player for Mauricio Pochettino in what is his first season of regular Premier League football.
The former City man has 12 goals and 10 assists from 33 appearances in all competitions and this form hasn’t gone unnoticed with Palmer being called up to the England squad for the first time and making his debut against Malta at Wembley last November.
It’s not just fans that Palmer has taken by surprise it’s also his team mates with Petrovic admitting he had been surprised by the England internationals impact.
He told Sky Sports: “Before he signed for Chelsea, Cole [Palmer]. To be honest I didn’t expect from him how many goals and assists. Now he’s showed the quality.”
Palmer was recently named as Young Player of the Year at the London Football Awards and Chelsea fans will be hoping he can inspire them once again in tonight’s must win game against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.
A win would see the Blues close the gap on tonights opponents to one point with a game in hand as the race for the European qualification heats up.
