Djed Spence will return to Tottenham Hotspur after Leeds United triggered a break clause to cut short his loan move.
The 23-year-old joined Leeds on a season-long loan in August but saw his time at Elland Road disrupted by injury.
Spence was restricted to seven Championship appearances after being sidelined for over two months with a knee injury.
He has featured as much at left-back as he has in his favoured right-back role following his return from injury in December due to injury to Sam Byram.
A Leeds statement read: “We would like to thank Djed for his efforts whilst at Elland Road and we wish him well for his future career.”
Spence spent last season on loan at Rennes in France and has made just four Premier League appearances for Spurs since joining from Middlesbrough in 2022.
The defender was not in Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham plans for the 2023-24 season and joined Leeds at the end of the summer window.
He made his Leeds debut from the bench against Millwall in September, before sustaining lateral collateral knee ligament damage following a challenge in training and subsequently sitting out his side’s next 12 matches.
Spence returned to the matchday squad in November and made his first Leeds start during the victory over Sunderland on December 12, with Byram out with a hamstring injury.
He started the next four matches but was an unused substitute for the victory over Birmingham City last time out.
Daniel Farke’s sit fourth in the Championship, seven points off the automatic promotion places, and return to action against Peterborough United in the FA Cup on Sunday.
