Former Bayern Munich midfielder Lothar Matthäus recently spoke extensively about the Bayern Munich board in his column for Sky Sports DE. He spoke in detail about the problems new director of sport Max Eberl is currently facing as well as why Uli Hoeneß might have returned to the fold.
“Max Eberl was brought in because they believed in his qualities, but he cannot and is not allowed to make any decisions. Instead, he is being talked into things from the right, the left, from above and from below. Max has a good network, has been in the business long enough and they should let him do his thing now, but there are still people at Bayern who have no official function but still have a say,” Matthäus told @SkySportDE (via @iMiaSanMia).
Matthäus also spoke about former CEO, Oliver Kahn, and about former director of sport Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić, respectively.
“I’m talking first and foremost about Uli Hoeneß. Uli deserves the utmost respect for his achievements in the past. He made Bayern Munich one of the biggest and most financially strong clubs in the world. Nevertheless, you have to let go sometimes. He let go four years ago and hired Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidžić. That was his idea at the time, which he pushed through because of his position, even though others were quite critical of it,” Matthäus stated.
He added why Hoeneß might have come back into the fold: “In retrospect, it wasn’t necessarily the best solution for FC Bayern, and perhaps they are now getting involved again because they want to correct the mistake they made back then.”
Many Bayern fans might find themselves agreeing with the former Bayern captain on this occasion.
