Man United are still in contract discussions with Jonny Evans, with his current deal due to expire in just a few days.
Manchester United Football Club are undergoing major change, though the club has to be careful that they do not make too many changes. Sometimes, consistency is key.
Keeping a core spine of players together can be vital, particularly older, more experienced players, who can play a pivotal role in keeping a dressing room together.
One man who definitely fits into that bracket is Jonny Evans. The Northern Irishman was superb for this club last season – both on and off the field. As things stand, his future remains up in the air…
The Manchester Evening News have provided some information on that front, claiming United ‘remain in discussions’ with the veteran over a new contract, though United are willing to retain the defender.
Evans’ current deal expires in just a few days at the end of June, meaning United could be forced into action quickly, with the defender then able to talk to other English clubs about joining them instead.
Nobody expected Evans to play 30 games for United last season, though he never let this club down once at the ripe old age of 36. Seriously, all credit goes to the defender who mightily impressed me week-in-week-out.
As an experienced player and key dressing room figure, I really do hope that Evans and United can come to an agreement on another twelve months’ contract. It just makes sense for all involved given the current situation.
The MEN also add that Tom Heaton is also in contract talks with United.
