Form is fleeting but class is permanent. After Lovro Zvonarek took advantage of an injury crisis at Bayern Munich, making his full debut and even scoring a goal with the senior team, Europe has belatedly taken notice of the youngster. Having become the youngest captain in HNL (Croatian first division) history at the tender age of just 16, Zvonarek has always had immense talent at his fingertips.
Now, according to reporters Florian Plettenberg and Dennis Bayer, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, that talent may finally have blossomed into enough ability for some historic clubs to take notice. The likes of Ajax, Anderlecht, Benfica, Sporting CP, and…uh…Mainz have taken notice of Zvonarek and enquired about him. The report states that “a final decision has not been made yet, but the loan move is expected to be finalized soon.”
Furthermore, even the people in charge of the Croatia national team are monitoring the former Slaven Belupo captain. In a team filled with ageing midfielders, perhaps Zvonarek would be able to provide that injection of youth the national team so desperately needs.
Regardless of if-or rather, when- he gets called up to the Croatian senior team, these loan moves seem to be phenomenal opportunities for Zvonarek. After an entire season of playing in the Croatian first division at 16, it is heavily debatable whether two years playing in the German fourth division with Bayern II was the right move for his development. A step up has been long overdue for Zvonarek and it seems that he will finally be able to take it.
