Could Manchester United’s misfortune be Bayern Munich’s luck?
After weeks of being underbid on Matthijs de Ligt, Bayern Munich could finally have the upperhand in negotiations with the Red Devils over the Dutchman:
Manchester United may have to dig deeper to sign Matthijs de Ligt following the cruel injury setback for new signing Leny Yoro. The recent £59million signing from Lille earlier sustained the injury in United’s 2-1 defeat by Arsenal in Los Angeles on Saturday. While United haven’t disclosed the severity of the issue, the early signs are not good.
After coming off in the first half of the defeat, the 18-year-old was pictured on crutches and wearing a protective plastic boot on his left foot at UCLA, United’s training base in LA. The potential loss of Yoro for a prolonged period would be a major blow for United and boss Erik ten Hag, who planned to start the new season with the French youngster at the heart of his new-look defence.
Early reports are indicated that Yoro could miss as many as three league games, though that is not an exact number. Will Manchester United feel enough pressure to dig deeper into their coffers for De Ligt?
Chelsea FC is taking a close look at Juventus attacker Federico Chiesa:
Chelsea have opened talks with the agent of want-away Juventus winger Federico Chiesa over a possible move to Stamford Bridge. The Italy international could be sold for as little as £20m.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are still trying to act like they do not want the Italian (per The Sun):
Tottenham are continuing to play down links to Chiesa as they also go in search for a new wide forward.
Bayern Munich looks set to continue onward in its preseason knowing that changes are (maybe) coming.
An overloaded roster will eventually have to be addressed, but Vincent Kompany will have to deal with that, while also figuring out exactly what he has in this group and how he wants them to play.
That will be no easy task. Needless to say, we have a lot to chat about.
This is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show:
- Is Bayern Munich’s front office taking an amateurish approach to this transfer window?
- João Palhinha looks and sounds like the real deal…can he avoid the pitfalls that have felled other big Bayern Munich signings?
- Despite the poor showings in friendlies, it is not time to panic at Bayern Munich just yet.
- Is it inevitable that Jamal Musiala leaves Bayern Munich next summer? Will Florian Wirtz replace him? Some things appear to be in motion, so let’s discuss.
West Ham has taken a strong interest in Borussia Dortmund striker and Germany international Niclas Füllkrug:
⚫️ The interest from West Ham in Niclas Füllkrug is becoming more and more concrete ✔️
First talks have taken place as also via @skysports_sheth. #BVB informed, that the 31 y/o striker is now high on their list. But no agreements between #WHUFC and Füllkrug. No agreements between the clubs yet. More talks are scheduled.
… West Ham, still there for Jhon Duran but the 20 y/o striker from Aston Villa is too expensive at this stage.
@SkySportDE
Fabrizio Romano also had information on the potential transfer:
⚒️ West Ham and Borussia Dortmund have new round of talks scheduled to advance on Niklas Füllkrug deal.
Füllkrug, keen on joining West Ham and deal depends on the clubs — West Ham trying to advance after Summerville deal.

Bayer Leverkusen is open to the idea of selling striker Patrik Schick:

❌ The striker simply does not suit Xabi Alonso’s style of play.

Schick has never quite fully settled in at Bayer Leverkusen to be the big scorer many thought he would be. Perhaps a change of scenery would serve him well.
Bayern Munich are fresh off a meek 1-1 draw with fifth-tier team FC Düren and are rewarded with a long-term injury to Hiroki Ito. Vincent Kompany’s second game in charge has not inspired much confidence in his tenure but it’s still early days. otherwise he’s doing his best Julian Nagelsmann impression.
In this episode, RIPLT will discuss the following:
- A recap of the Düren game
- Scrutinizing player performances
- Calling Bayern out on their lack of game coverage and why it won’t help their brand
- A look at the transfer moves made by Bayern and their league rivals (Stuttgart, Dortmund, Leipzig)
- How Hiroki Ito’s injury leads to Jonathan Tah (again)
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen might be leaving the club, but things are complicated. Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea FC are interested:
Napoli keep looking for solutions for Victor Osimhen as they want to bring in Romelu Lukaku as soon as possible.
Understand Napoli could also be open to discussing Osimhen as part of Lukaku talks with Chelsea.

Things could be heating up between Torino and Union Berlin’s Robin Gosens:
@TorinoFC_1906, pushing for a loan with an obligation to buy for Robin #Gosens (after a certain number of matches) …
About reports of a concrete offer from Torino Union Berlin boss Horst Heldt told @L_deRuiter: „No, I can tell you that this is not the case.“
Union would like to keep Gosens. Only willing to negotiate with suitable offers. Union demand a transfer fee of at least €10m. The right offer has not yet been made. Contract valid until 2028.
The Vincent Kompany Era is underway and fans got their first game day taste of what Bayern Munich might be when the squad dismantled FC Rottach-Egern 14-1.
Even that beatdown did not calm some of the uneasiness that fans have been feeling about how things are progressing during this offseason. So, let’s talk about that and a lot more on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show. This is what we have on tap:
- Bayern Munich never really had a shot with Xavi Simons — and what that tells us about Max Eberl.
- It’s okay to be caught somewhere between uneasy and excited about the team at the moment.
- At this stage, there might not be any difference making transfers that will help the team this season.
- Takes on House of the Dragon and Cobra Kai…and a few other random thoughts.
