When Bayern Munich chose to sign Vincent Kompany from Burnley FC, it was the ultimate bet on character over results. Bayern were roundly criticized for hiring a manager whose best coaching achievement was winning the Championship and had been soundly relegated from the Premier League last season, but Bayern were convinced once they held extensive talks with Kompany that they had a phenomenal manager on their hands. So what are these values that Kompany was able to convince the Bayern board he has to reclaim the Bundesliga?
Speaking to SportBild, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen showered the Belgian coach with compliments.
“Vincent is a very intelligent leader who also stands for empathy and cohesion. He’s a good communicator, an extremely committed coach who, despite his young age, has already gained a lot of experience in professional football, and we are convinced that we will see attractive and successful football on the pitch,” Dreesen said in remarks captured by @iMiaSanMia,
We will see how this experiment works out. And hopefully, at the end of the season, Dreesen can add “Champions League winner” to Kompany’s list of achievements.
