According to a report from Le Parisien journalist Marc Mechenoua (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Paris Saint-Germain is very interested in a move for Bayern Munich right-back / central midfielder Joshua Kimmich.
Maybe more alarming than PSG’s rumored interest in the Germany international is the fact that Kimmich is likely to play out his contract before assessing what he should do next in his career. This is a problem for the Bavarians who are seemingly at risk of losing two top talents — Kimmich and Alphonso Davies — for free next summer:
In addition to João Neves, PSG want to sign a more experienced midfielder and have been working on Joshua Kimmich for several months. After a first attempt in January, talks between PSG and Bayern have continued with the German side now more open to selling Kimmich in order not to lose him for free next year.
Meanwhile, the player is not considering leaving Bayern this summer and intends to see out his contract in order to keep his options open next summer. In addition, France is not Kimmich’s priority in case of a move, with England and Spain being his most preferred destinations.
For Kimmich, who does not have a defined role yet under Kompany, a move looks increasingly likely during the 2025 summer transfer window. Kimmich could make himself more money if he transfers then because he will not have a fee associated with his departure. This would be a fiscally prudent move for the player, but an outright disaster for Bayern Munich.
At this stage, Bayern Munich has more than a few situations to address like this. In addition to Kimmich and Davies, Eric Dier, Thomas Müller (expected to retire), Manuel Neuer, Sven Ulreich, Leroy Sané, and Gabriel Vidović are all in the final year of their respective contracts. While that will give the club a good chance to shed a lot of salary expenses, it will also represent a lost opportunity to sell off some of those commodities.
