Joshua Kimmich is often noted for his leadership abilities (whether for good or for worse) and was touted to become a leader for both club and country for a good period of time. Kimmich is now Germany’s captain after Manuel Neuer’s retirement and might very well succeed him at club level too.
“We have two big figures in Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller who will leave us at some point in the foreseeable future due to their age,” Max Eberl told BR24 (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “So, we need new big figures. Joshua Kimmich, with his performances, his willingness, his heart, is predestined for that. It’s not for nothing that he’s captain of the German national team. He should be the captain of Bayern Munich of the future. But first we have to extend the contract, which will be strenuous enough”.
The end of Müller’s and Neuer’s careers are not far off, and the club must shape the figure that will replace those two players.
