West Ham United head coach Julen Lopetegui is feeling the pressure already, after only three months in charge at the London Stadium.
Julen Lopetegui took over as West Ham‘s new head coach officially on July 1st, after David Moyes had been moved on from the London Stadium by the club’s owners.
The Hammers head coach‘s arrival was met with a mix of optimism and skepticism from the West Ham fans.
Some believed he has the skillset needed to take us to the next level, and they still do in all fairness.
Meanwhile, others labelled Lopetegui as the ‘Spanish Moyes’. Only time will tell which camp is correct.
Julen Lopetegui actually apologised to the West Ham fans after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, and rightly so.
It really was a shambolic performance all round.
The 58-year-old made some strange decisions with his lineup – mainly leaving Jean-Clair Todibo on the bench, and some awful calls when it came to making his subs.
Things go from bad to worse for West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui
The Hammers chief will undoubtedly be feeling the heat right now.
Things won’t get any easier for him either, with games against Liverpool, Brentford, Tottenham and Manchester United all to come before the end of October.
He enjoyed such a fantastic summer transfer window, but he’s struggling to get all of his new signings to work properly together right now.
One of Lopetegui’s biggest mistakes in my eyes was signing Niclas Fullkrug instead of Jhon Duran, and that error is being made to look worse and worse with every week that passes.
The 20-year-old scored AGAIN for Aston Villa on Saturday, and he really does look like the total package.
He has scored four goals in five Premier League games for Villa this season, and he’s only played 131 minutes!
Meanwhile, Fullkrug is currently out injured and he’s still yet to open his account for the Hammers.
Duran on another level to Fullkrug
The young Colombia international possesses explosive pace, terrific movement and is proving to be a really lethal finisher.
Now, Fullkrug is a decent finisher as well, but if we’re being honest with ourselves, Duran is streets ahead of him.
The former Borussia Dortmund man is painfully slow and quite frankly, he seems easy to defend against.
The jury is actually still out as to whether the Germany international is even suited to Premier League football in the first place.
Fullkrug will be under huge pressure to score when he returns from injury, and I really have my doubts that he has what it takes to step up and score 15 goals or more in the Premier League.
Had Julen Lopetegui brought Duran to West Ham instead of Fullkrug, I firmly believe that we’d be where Villa are in the table right now, or at the very least inside the top six.
Duran scoring yesterday rubbed salt into Lopetegui’s gaping wounds, as things went from bad to worse for the Hammers.
