Former Aston Villa and Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke doesn’t believe Arsenal can beat Manchester City to the Premier League title.
The Gunners have been runners-up in the last two seasons, with Pep Guardiola‘s side finishing in top spot and, speaking to Prime Casino, Yorke said he can’t see anything changing this season.
“Arsenal, they’ve been pushing. I think that with Arsenal, when it comes to the nitty gritty, they just come up short. I think with all the hype and talk about them, when it comes to the business end they just seem to come up short.”
“I feel there’s something they can’t get over and City will always be City. It’s simple – if you finish above City you’re going to win the league.”
City need to show they can cope without Rodri
Considering that the Cityzens have won the last four league titles in a row, it would be foolish to bet against them winning it again.
However, there is no doubt that the season-ending injury suffered by Rodri could affect their chances. The Spanish international is a key cog for Guardiola’s team in the middle of the park.
Considering how close the title race has been in recent seasons, it would only take a slight dip for the likes of Arsenal to get ahead. Finding a way to handle the loss of Rodri will be crucial to City’s prospects.
The odds are favouring Arsenal
Most bookmakers currently have the Gunners as favourites to finish in top spot, with City’s odds having lengthened due to the news about Rodri.
It should not be forgotten, though, that Guardiola’s men had to cope without Kevin De Bruyne for the first half of last season and they still managed to reach 91 points. As Yorke points out, it’s wise not to underestimate them.
