West Ham United signed Crysencio Summerville in the summer transfer window, and now a very interesting claim involving Chelsea and Liverpool has emerged.
Crysencio Summerville has endured a tough start to life at West Ham, with only 334 minutes of action in all competitions to his name so far.
Julen Lopetegui has eased the former Leeds winger into action, but he should be given a big chance to impress over the next few weeks, with Mohammed Kudus set to miss at least three games through suspension.
Summerville, a £20 million signing from Leeds in the summer, has explosive pace and plays in a really direct style.
He could well be the key to getting the best out of Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio, and Niclas Fullkrug when the German returns from injury.
Hopefully now we’ll get to see what he’s really all about. Things could have been so different back in the summer though it seems…
Crysencio Summerville claim emerges after Chelsea, Liverpool interest
In my opinion, the Dutchman is a huge talent, and has everything needed to make it at the very highest level.
I cannot wait to see him be given a run of starts now, because I truly believe that he will make a big difference for us.
He clearly has something special about him – Chelsea and Liverpool wanted to sign him in the summer after all.
And now The Athletic has lifted the lid on why Summerville chose not to join either of those two clubs.
Roshane Thomas wrote, “Chelsea and Liverpool were among those who enquired about the 22-year-old Dutchman, but securing playing time was important for Summerville and neither were viewed favourably due to the number of wingers they had in their squads.“
I like that mentality from Summerville. However, he must be frustrated right now, given the fact that he received assurances from Lopetegui that he would play regularly.
As mentioned earlier though, the 22-year-old will now be given a big chance to shine, with Kudus set to be unavailable for at least three games.
The flying winger has been incredibly patient, and has looked lively at times when he’s come on as a substitute.
Now it’s time for him to really step up and make a big statement to the manager and the fans.
Crysencio Summerville definitely has the talent, and the fact that he turned down moves to Chelsea and Liverpool in order to play more regularly proves to me that he has the correct mindset as well.
