The West Ham United fans should be seriously excited by something that Michail Antonio has just said about one of our young players.
West Ham forward Michail Antonio knows all about what it takes to make it at the very highest level from humble beginnings.
The Jamaica international began his career in non-league with Tooting and Mitcham, and had to wait until 2015 before he played Premier League football with the Hammers.
He is our now our all-time record Premier League goalscorer, and has set himself the target of reaching 100 league goals for West Ham.
Whilst he isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing player to watch, his work-rate behind the scenes is said to be one of the most impressive around.
And that’s exactly what the club’s youngsters need to match, if any of them are going to reach the heights that Micky has.
Michail Antonio says West Ham have a special U-21 star
The Jamaica international is one of the most senior players at the London Stadium right now.
Whilst he has struggled for consistent form over the past 18 months or so, he will still be a great mentor for the youngsters, given his background in the game.
Antonio spoke with Pro Direct Soccer, and responded when asked who he thinks is the one young player we should all be keeping an eye on.
George Earthy was the player who the 34-year-old Hammers hitman picked out for praise.
Antonio said, “George Earthy, he scored for us last season, he’s gone out on loan this year, but he’s quality. I think he’s definitely going to have a big career going forwards.“
Earthy is an incredible young talent, and we saw that he’s actually ready for first-team football last season, when he scored in the Premier League at the London Stadium against Luton.
However, he has only played 86 minutes of football so far for Bristol City, after picking up an injury earlier on this season that kept him out for a while.
The 20-year-old possesses a great engine, supreme technical ability and has that ‘special sauce’ required to make it at the very highest level of the game.
Incredibly, former Hammers boss David Moyes actually likened Earthy to Manchester City legend David Silva!
And the glowing praise from Michail Antonio will undoubtedly do the West Ham teenager the world of good.
