Claret & Hugh have learned within the last hour that West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug will return to the UK tomorrow to watch the Premier League match against Manchester United.
After speaking with a top club source, we inquired when the injured £27m signing could be expected to return from Germany, where he’s been receiving treatment.
It was reported earlier this week that Fullkrug had flown back to his home country in an effort to expedite his recovery from an injury sustained during international duty in September. Speculation suggested that the former Dortmund player sought a pain-killing injection, though no explanation was given as to why the procedure couldn’t be conducted in the UK.
West Ham director of football Tim Steidten has come under mounting pressure during recent days following a closer examination of the players injury record. The injury has prompted Irons head coach Julen Lopetegui to ask for striker reinforcements during the January transfer window and concerns over Fullkrugs long term fitness persist.
When speaking directly to C&H, the high-ranking Hammers official responded, “He’ll be back to WATCH us play Sunday.”
The emphasis on the word “watch” was clearly intended to convey that Fullkrug is not yet ready to play.
