West Ham United head coach Julen Lopetegui is a man under real pressure right now.
Julen Lopetegui arrived at the London Stadium in the summer after David Moyes was moved on, but he’s yet to make any discernible improvements at West Ham.
There is apparently friction between Lopetegui and Tim Steidten right now, regarding the Luis Guilherme signing.
However, the Spaniard agreed to work under a director of football, so he made his bed, now he has to lie in it.
Lopetegui’s chief focus has to be on getting the best out of his players. He needs to implement a playing style that suits the players he has at his disposal.
We need the feel-good feeling back at the London Stadium, but could it be argued that it’s actually too late to get things back on track under the Spaniard?
Stunning Julen Lopetegui revelation made
It seems like the Hammers are taking one step forward and two steps backwards right now.
The 4-1 win against Ipswich Town three weeks ago was a false dawn, as the Hammers lost by the same scoreline to Tottenham last weekend.
Lopetegui desperately needs a win against Manchester United on Sunday, but the damage might just have been done already.
According to a report from The Daily Mail, Lopetegui could be ‘approaching the point of no return’ at West Ham.
“Prior to the previous international break there were indications within football circles that Lopetegui was already on thin ice, approaching the point of no return.“
“Hard to fathom, really, given he only arrived in May. But football comes at you fast, particularly in an unforgiving Premier League.“
The main problem Lopetegui has is that nobody really knows the system he is trying to implement at West Ham.
From my perspective, absolutely nothing has changed from last season.
Just like it was under Moyes, the football has been painful to watch and our defence has more leaks than the Titanic.
Something has to change if Julen Lopetegui is to succeed at West Ham, and fast.
The outlook seems bleak right now though, it must be said.
