There could be trouble ahead at West Ham United it seems.
West Ham co-owner David Sullivan appointed Tim Steidten as the club’s director of football back in the summer of 2023.
And then, this summer just gone, Sullivan gave Steidten the keys to the kingdom at the London Stadium, with the Hammers going down more of a continental route regarding player recruitment.
Essentially, Julen Lopetegui has been given a squad of players to work with who should all suit the type of football he’s trying to implement.
However, Lopetegui is struggling to get a tune out of his squad right now. And it was claimed by top Steidten ally Florian Plettenberg that the Hammers owners are already lining up potential replacements for the Spaniard.
If true, that sounds a little harsh to me. Lopetegui surely deserves until Christmas at the very least to prove himself.
But now there could be trouble ahead at the London Stadium, after a source close to David Sullivan provided a contradictory claim…
David Sullivan source fires back at Tim Steidten ally
The Hammers co-owner is well know for not rushing into decisions when it comes to sacking managers.
And this time will surely be no different.
Sean Whetstone took to his X account on Saturday in response to the claims from Plettenberg.
Whetstone tweeted:
Whetstone is known to have close links with Hammers co-owner Sullivan, so it seems as though there could be some big internal disagreements behind the scenes at the London Stadium right now.
I don’t expect Lopetegui to be going anywhere over the next couple of omnths.
Let’s see where we stand in the new year.
After all, a top source at the London Stadium exclusively told Hammers News that the board are in full support of Lopetegui.
West Ham have some tough games on the horizon, and if we embark on a sustained run of defeats, Lopetegui will undoubtedly find himself under real pressure.
Until that happens though, Tim Steidten might be playing a dangerous game with David Sullivan if stories continue to be leaked by Plettenberg about Lopetegui’s future.
