The fall-out from the weekends dire result – the latest in a series of dire results – of the 3-0 drubbing at Nottingham Forest continues to rumble on. As a reaction to gauge Hammers’ fans’ opinions, yesterday our associate editor Sean Whetstone ran his poll on twitter X. We published the twitter page on Claret and Hugh to allow our readers to take part.
In a pretty overwhelming response it is clear which way respondents feel the wind is blowing: Of those replying to the question “Do you back head coach Julen Lopetegui to turn things around with results at West Ham this season?”
The response was 85% No and 15% Yes.
What is striking is that unlike the issues surrounding previous Manager David Moyes – over whom the fan base seemed divided 50:50 between ‘Moyes In and Moyes Out’ – no such division with Julen Lopetegui.
It seems 10 league matches and a couple of cup games is sufficient for thousands to say – we’ve seen enough’.
The real test comes at the weekend: Will David Sullivan keep to his premise that ‘Everton is a must-win game’? From this response, clearly thousands of Hammers fans sincerely hope that Lopetegui will not be staying at the club.
Maybe we will start on a winning run and everything settles down.. Maybe.
