Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten are clearly desperate to get a striker signing over the line for West Ham ahead of the January transfer window.
The January transfer window will be a vital one for West Ham, and Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten are obviously getting their ducks in a row before the window opens.
The Hammers head coach is desperately in need of someone who can lead the line right now, after Steidten’s decision to bring Niclas Fullkrug to the London Stadium simply hasn’t worked out.
The Spaniard and the German are said to be under pressure from the board right now, after one questionable summer signing in particular.
That signing was Luis Guilherme – an unproven Brazilian youngster.
And amazingly, the West Ham transfer team could be set to take a punt on yet another unproven Brazilian!
West Ham make official striker bid
So Lopetegui is apparently on the verge of strengthening his attacking options.
However, the fee we could end up paying for the striker in question really has me confused
According to Brazilian outlet Globo, the Hammers have flown board members over to Brazil to propose a formal £30 million bid for Igor Jesus.
That would make him our 8th most expensive signing of all-time!
The 23-year-old has bagged eight goals and three assists in 22 games for Botafogo, since joining them back in July on a free transfer (Transfermarkt).
He was a huge hit out in the UAE with Shabab Al-Ahli Club, bagging 43 goals and 20 assists in 87 games.
However, his record in Brazil is poor. He began his career with Coritiba Foot Ball Club, and scored five goals in 49 games for them.
He is completely unproven in the Premier League, or anywhere in Europe for that matter.
And if the above report is true, it means that West Ham are prepared to pay £30 million for an unproven striker in the January transfer window but not £8.5 million+ for a young manager who could easily become one of the very best in world football.
Please, make it make sense…
