Manchester City are among the teams keeping close tabs on Sporting Lisbon winger Geovany Quenda, according to TEAMtalk.
The website claims that Pep Guardiola’s side are “very interested” in the 17-year-old who many predict will become a “superstar in the future.”
Quenda is currently being managed by soon-to-be Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim, and the Red Devils are also said to be sending scouts to watch the teenager play, along with Liverpool.
Other sources have credited the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal with an interest in the Portuguese Under 21 international as well but TEAMtalk report there is no clear favourite for the forward’s signature at this moment in time.
Sporting are holding out for a sizeable fee
It is believed that Quenda’s club won’t accept a bid below his €100m (£84m) release clause, and that would put off the likes of City and others from making an offer.
The youngster does have huge potential but it would still be a risk to pay that much for someone who has made just 16 appearances in senior football. Of course, if he does impress when playing against City in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, opinions may change.
Due to Quenda’s age, though, he can’t move during the January transfer window anyway so a bid would have to wait until the summer.
Do City need a player like Quenda?
It is up for debate whether the Premier League champions need another right winger. The arrival of Sporting Lisbon’s Hugo Viana as City’s Director of Football does lend credence to the rumour that the club are interested.
However, with both Savinho and Oscar Bobb already on City’s books, there really wouldn’t be any room in the squad for a player like Quenda.
