Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl is ready for everyone to move on from his club’s embarrassing defeat to FC Barcelona last month.
“We shouldn’t keep looking at the game against Barcelona. We’ve worked through the game, we lost 4-1 there, the second half wasn’t good. Now we’ve kept a clean sheet in three games in a row, the last time that happened was in 2020. That gives us the feeling that we need to develop step by step,” Eberl told ranSport’s Martin Volkmar (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “That’s what we said: This is a process that we’re going through. We tackled a lot of things in the summer, we have a new coach, we’re playing football differently. It’s a fact that we have to adapt a few things and that’s a good thing. But the team did that and we’re doing very, very well in the Bundesliga now.
“We now have tough tasks in the Champions League against Benfica and PSG, which we’re looking forward to. It’s the Champions League. We’ve played three games now and lost twice, so we’re under a bit of pressure. But the team is so solid at home. Of course, we want to win at home, we don’t need to remind anyone of that. We want to take this euphoria into the next game, beat Benfica and then stay in the competition.”
The Bavarians are missing a marquee win this season. Sure, Bayern Munich has thoroughly smashed all of the weaker teams, but until Bayern Munich gets a signature win over a good team, fans and pundits will likely continue to focus on those result in big games…against quality teams.
