Whenever Bayern Munich plays against teams who play a low-block or defend deep, that’s already made Bayern’s day worse. Against Benfica, the Bavarians persevered and got their much-needed breakthrough. Konrad Laimer, who alternated between positions down the right-hand side, believed that his side did well to get around the club’s kryptonite
“It’s always tough to play against an opponent that sits deep”, Laimer said (DAZN via @iMiaSanMia). “You have to be patient. I think we did well as we kept trying and played our football. We could probably have done more in the attacking third. It was important to win today. I thought we dominated the game and deservedly won”.
Bayern were at times lacking in some areas and was close to conceding a goal numerous times from Benfica’s counterattacks, but a solid performance from the back line—particularly Kim Min-jae—ensured that Bayern got all three points.
