The German national team is set to face Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary in the UEFA Nations League and head coach Julian Nagelsmann has released his call-up list.
Below is the group of players who received the nod, including three Bayern Munich players — Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, and Serge Gnabry — plus loanee Alexander Nübel, who is spending the season at VfB Stuttgart:
The initial October call-up list is below for comparison:
What are the big differences? Let’s discuss.
The attacking group remained exactly the same from the initial call sheet, but we did see some movement in the midfielder group. Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt is was included in the mix, as was his teammate Felix Nmecha. With Bayern Munich’s Aleksandar Pavlović out with an injury, a spot opened up.
Borussia Dortmund’s Waldemar Anton is battling a thigh injury and RB Leipzig’s David Raum also hurt (ankle injury) did not receive the call, which opened up a spot for Robin Gosens, who ultimately joined the October call-ups as a late call up to help Nagelsmann deal with injuries.
Manchester City’s Stetan Ortega received the call over Red Bull Salzburg’s Janis Blaswich during this round as well.
We also know that Bayern Munich loanee Paul Wanner, who is at Heidenheim, rejected an offer from Nagelsmann in favor of staying with Germany’s U-21 team as it prepares for the EUROs this summer.
Wanner is also still unsure if he wants to play for Germany or Austria, where he would likely have a more clear path to make an impact.
It should also be noted that VfB Stuttgart’s Jamie Leweling, who emerged as a breakout star during the last international break after being a late call-up, was also not called up due to injury.
