Julen Lopetegui addressed the media this afternoon ahead of the West Ham United vs Everton Premier League clash on Saturday.
West Ham play host to Everton in the Premier League at the London Stadium on Saturday, and nothing less than a win will do.
Julen Lopetegui absolutely cannot afford anything other than a resounding victory.
In fact, it has even been claimed that anything less than a ‘convincing performance’ could see Lopetegui lose his job.
Lopetegui’s first few months in charge of West Ham have been difficult to say the least.
However, certain players have made his job even harder – one man in particular in fact…
Julen Lopetegui clearly not happy with one West Ham player
The Spaniard is under intense pressure to get a result this weekend.
However, he’ll have to do it without two of his so-called best players.
Lopetegui addressed the media during his pre-match press conference today.
And he responded when asked if he has reminded his players to show responsibility on the pitch, as quoted by WHUFC.com.
Lopetegui said five simple words, accompanied with a deadpan expression: “Yes, we talked a lot.“
It’s clear to me that the journalist asking that question was referring to Edson Alvarez and his reckless challenge that led to his sending off against Nottingham Forest last weekend.
He could also have been speaking about Mohammed Kudus, after the Ghanaian’s ridiculous head-loss away at Tottenham three weeks ago.
Either way, Lopetegui’s response proves that he is incredibly angry with the moments of madness from his players.
However, Alvarez is a two-time offender this season now. The Mexican has proven that he’s not learning, and I personally think he needs to be moved on.
If Julen Lopetegui remains in charge of West Ham, it’s clear to see that he won’t tolerate that kind of lack of professionalism anymore.
It remains to be seen whether the Spaniard will be discarded before he’s given a chance to discipline the Mexican midfielder though.
