Mark Robins is no longer in charge at Coventry. The former Leicester striker, joining the club from Norwich for a fee of £1million back in 1995, was surprisingly sacked by The Sky Blues this week. Robins (54) has done a remarkable job, getting the club up from lower tiers in recent seasons, also being close to win promotion back to Premier League, last being up in the best party in 2000/01 season.
Robins became a player on the fringe under Martin O’Neill, being sold to Spanish club Ourense in 1998. The former Man Utd forward scored 12 goals in 56 league games with Leicester.
Coventry owners might have come to this conclusion after yesterday’s result vs. Derby, defeated 2-1 at home, must have been the key reason, as Sky Blues are know finding themselves in 17th place, far from expectation.
Departures and sales of players such as Viktor Gyökeres, Gustavo Hamer and Callum O’Hare, have not been covered, as replacement looks far from what expected.
Coventry City has made the difficult decision to terminate the contract of Mark Robins as manager.

In his last interview as Coventry manager, Robins said the following, “What’s frustrating for me and for everybody, I suppose watching is one minute we’re at a really high level, and then a few days later, we’re miles off it. First half we were miles off it. We gave them a leg up. We should have won the game. We’ve got really, really talented players and they didn’t perform to the expected level.”
This is a bit sad, as the club decides to split with such a fantastic contributer. Robins returned to Coventry for his second managerial period in 2017, also being at the club from 2012 to 2013. We do believe he will soon return to management and we would warn with the words, “careful what you wish for”.
Former Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe is seen as a favourite in the chase for a new candidate. Other names mentioned are, Neil Warnock, Slaven Bilic and Tony Mowbray, so we will just wait and see.
Best of luck to Mark Robins, strange and surprised to see him leave so early in the season, still a lot of time to get it right.
