Tottenham loanee Dane Scarlett is starting to find his feet at Oxford United
Tottenham Hotspur boasts of a glut of young talents, with Daniel Levy and Co. having created a pipeline from the famed academy to the first-team squad in the long term.
Spurs fans have witnessed academy starlets such as Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear getting opportunities to shine in the first team this season. This demonstrates that head coach Ange Postecoglou is not afraid to give youngsters the platform to showcase their talent at a high level.
Apart from moving on the majority of the deadwood in the summer, the Lilywhites also decided to loan out a few of their promising academy kids. One of those that went out on loan was Dane Scarlett.
Dane Scarlett, who has made 17 first-team appearances for Spurs, spent the first half of last season on loan at Ipswich Town in the Championship. However, he failed to make much of an impact, with no goals scored in 12 appearances as the Tractor Boys earned promotion to the Premier League.
The England under-21 international joined Championship side Oxford United on a season-long loan in August, hoping for a change in fortunes in the English second tier this time around. But it wasn’t the case as the youngster initially struggled to break into Des Buckingham’s first team.
Now, things have started changing for good for Scarlett, who is earning the trust of Des Buckingham. He has scored three goals in his last six games for Oxford United.
John Wenham—the owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose—is extremely happy to see Scarlett producing impactful performances for Oxford United. He wants the young striker to continue scoring goals and start pushing for more regular starts in the Championship.
“For Scarlett, it is just about continuing to perform well,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“Even when he was on the bench recently for Oxford United, he still came on and managed to score a really good goal.
“Therefore, he will be pushing for more starts at the club. He just needs to keep performing well and see what his numbers are toward the end of the season.
“Scarlett is a striker, so it is important that he gets goals, which he is doing at the moment.”
Scarlett is starting to gain confidence with regular starts at the Kassam Stadium. It is great to see our academy product adding value to Buckingham’s side—either in the starting XI or from the bench.
He is a talent and remains hungry to prove himself in men’s football, with the striker aware that this is his last chance saloon to show why he deserves a new contract at the Hotspur Way as the current deal expires in the summer (Transfermarkt).
