O Jogo report in their print edition on Monday, November 11th 2024 that Pedro Goncalves was left furious and crying in the Sporting CP dressing room after picking up an injury on Sunday.
Goncalves had started the match against SC Braga, but he only lasted 26 minutes before a muscle injury forced him out of the game.
Sporting will now carry out further assessments to establish the extent of the injury, with a game against Arsenal coming up in just 15 days.
Goncalves’ reaction is certainly not a positive sign for Sporting, as the player should have a pretty good idea about when such an injury is serious given his recent experiences.
The player suffered muscle injuries in March and September of this year, missing 20 and 29 days respectively. If this latest injury turns out to be similar, that timeframe would see him missing the Arsenal match.
That would be a blow to Sporting, as Goncalves has scored five and assisted six goals in 12 games for the Portuguese club this season. Arsenal fans may also remember Goncalves scoring from 46 yards against the Gunners in March of last year.
Most recently, Goncalves provided an assist for Sporting in their 4-1 demolition of Manchester City, playing the full 90 minutes of that match.
Sporting have one game before the Arsenal clash, playing Amarante FC in the Portuguese cup on Friday, November 22nd.
If we don’t hear more on the injury before then, the squad for that game should give a hint at Goncalves’ potential involvement against Arsenal the following Tuesday.
