Manchester City are the latest Premier League team to show an interest in Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson, according to GiveMeSport.
The website reports that the reigning champions have “pinpointed” the 27-year-old as a potential transfer target.
However, there are plenty of other suitors for Robinson, who has impressed observers with his performances at Craven Cottage over the past couple of seasons.
GiveMeSport claim that, in addition to the City, rivals Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are also fans of the American international.
Guardiola is targeting reinforcements on the left flank
The Cityzens don’t really have a recognised left-back in the first-team squad, although Josko Gvardiol has performed the role extremely capably since his arrival at the Etihad from RB Leipzig last year.
Manager Pep Guardiola may feel that Gvardiol is the long-term solution, but additional depth in that area is very much needed.
Against Brighton, Gvardiol was forced to move centrally due to injuries, leaving Rico Lewis to play as an inverted fullback on the left-hand side of defence. It is not the teenager’s natural position. For that reason, you can understand why the club may be pondering a move for Robinson.
City would have to pay a sizeable fee for Robinson
It is believed that Fulham would want around £40m to sell their player. It is a significant sum but it is not a number that would necessarily put off potential suitors.
That fee was what City were reportedly prepared to pay Brighton for Marc Cucurella a couple of years ago. The Spaniard subsequently joined Chelsea for £62m instead.
Robinson is already in his late twenties, which may leave some question marks over whether he would be worth signing at that age, but he is definitely the type of player that would thrive in City’s system.
