Once embattled, Bayern Munich center-back Dayot Upamecano is now reportedly on the verge of a contract extension.
The 26-year-old has been in the spotlight for several high-profile mistakes over the course of his Bayern career, which began in 2021/22. But now, under Vincent Kompany — his third head coach in four seasons in Bavaria — Upamecano has reached undisputed status as a top-choice center-back. And with the summer transfer window sale of Matthijs de Ligt, keeping the talented Frenchman around is a no-brainer.
The Bavarians are planning to do just that, according to Sky Sport DE. Via @iMiaSanMia:
FC Bayern have already decided to extend Dayot #Upamecano’s contract beyond 2026 ✔️
Vincent Kompany holds the 26 y/o in high regard.
While there have not yet been any concrete negotiations regarding the financial terms or the duration of the extension, these are expected to take place in the coming weeks.

Upamecano and Kim Min-jae are forming a stable defensive partnership under Kompany this season. Expect that to now continue into the coming years.
