National team coach Julian Nagelsmann has called up Julian Brandt into the Germany squad for the November international window. The Borussia Dortmund player, although highly talented, has been excluded from the squad for several consecutive windows for the national team. This time, Brandt has a chance to redeem himself and re-establish his presence in the future.
The German manager stated that doors are never closed for players to make a return. Brandt is one of the few players to make a comeback to the squad after earlier exclusions along with Serge Gnabry but Nagelsmann added that he might not have been there if the entire EUROs squad was available.
“I’ve always stressed that doors are never closed. If the entire Euros squad was available now, he might not have been there. But he’s one of those who fills the spots when players are absent. I think that, along with Felix Nmecha, he’s one of the most consistent players in a team that’s not having the best of moments (Dortmund). He deserved it. It’s up to him to make a lasting impression,” said Nagelsmann (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
This comment makes it seem as though Brandt is only a temporary fill, but of course performances don’t go unnoticed if Brandt does something to contribute. Nagelsmann says that Brandt deserved a spot and has the opportunity to make a lasting impression. This is certainly the right attitude to have and Brandt must share the same sentiment to accept the call-up.
Will Brandt’s attitude cost him once again? Or has he changed since the World Cup in 2022 where he was documented showing up to several meetings with a lack of sincerity? That is up to Brandt to decide.
