The upcoming January transfer window will be a vitally important one for West Ham, and Arsenal ace Myles Lewis-Skelly is someone we should be going all out for.
The Arsenal youngster has looked absolutely quality when he has played for Arsenal this season, and he clearly has the full trust of Mikel Arteta.
This is where the Hammers need to come into the mix though…
West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui desperately needs to add more legs to his central midfield options.
It was a huge oversight back in the summer from the transfer team at West Ham when they failed to bring a dynamic central midfielder to the London Stadium.
I have no doubts that Lewis-Skelly could perform that role for the Hammers perfectly.
Now all West Ham have to do is go to Arsenal and try to make the deal happen.
Arsenal ace Myles Lewis-Skelly joining West Ham on loan ideal
The talented teenager will not get many minutes for the Gunners between now and the end of the season, especially as many of their first-team stars return from injury.
And I think I have the perfect solution.
Here’s the bottom line – West Ham need more pace and power in the middle of the pitch, and we’re short of technical ability as well.
Lewis-Skelly would offer us all of those qualities in abundance.
Sure, he has played as a full-back for Arsenal during his 124 minutes of action this season (Transfermarkt), but he began his career as a deep-lying central midfielder.
The 18-year-old is a tremendously gifted player, and I would absolutely love to see him playing in the middle of the park for the Hammers for the second half of the season.
He’s highly rated at the Emirates and Mikel Arteta recently described him as ‘special’ (talkSPORT).
Regular Premier League football would be fantastic for Myles Lewis-Skelly’s development, so a loan move to West Ham will benefit us, the player himself and of course, Arsenal.
I really feel like signing him in January should be a no-brainer for the Hammers, and it’s a move we definitely should pursue.
Also, whilst it would be highly unlikely, it will definitely be worth asking Arsenal to include an option to buy clause in the deal as well.
