Niclas Fullkrug has endured a disastrous start to his West Ham United career, there are no two ways about that.
West Ham signed Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, and it was recently claimed that the Hammers could already be prepared to sell the 31-year-old in January.
The deal to bring him to the London Stadium from Borussia Dortmund cost the Hammers around £27.5 million including incentivised add-ons.
That now looks like a huge waste of money though.
Fullkrug has already admitted that he has made a very bad start to life with the Hammers.
In my opinion, it’s clear to see that the Germany international is simply not suited to Premier League football.
It’s fair to argue that he hasn’t been given a proper chance to prove himself yet, but sometimes you can just tell can’t you.
Niclas Fullkrug claim will set cat among the pigeons at West Ham
The Hammers fans were crying out for an explosive young centre-forward in the summer.
Jhon Duran was the man we wanted, and needed, but Tim Steidten brought Fullkrug to the club in the end.
In my view, that was a massive mistake, and an expensive one too.
However, do Lopetegui, Steidten and the owners agree with that notion?
It seems they don’t, and that’s because Suddeutsche Zeitung are claiming that the Hammers have absolutely no intention of selling Fullkrug in January.
That claim is in stark contrast to the recent reports suggesting that West Ham were ready to give up on the 31-year-old.
It is suggested by Suddeutsche Zeitung that Fullkrug has the full backing of the Hammers hierarchy.
Only time will tell as to whether that faith is misplaced or not.
Even if the Hammers do keep the German though, I still think we need to go out and sign a robust, pacy centre-forward in January.
If that doesn’t happen, West Ham could be in a world of pain this season, without that explosive cutting edge up front.
