Fulham defender Joachim Andersen is a target for Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur were one of the busiest teams in the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
The Lilywhites’ biggest signing of the summer came in the form of Dominic Solanke, while they also invested in young talents such as Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert and Yang Min-hyeok. Despite spending a lot of money, Ange Postecoglou’s squad is far from complete to compete with top teams in the division.
Spurs have had their fair share of injury problems too, with Micky van de Ven suffering a hamstring injury in the Carabao Cup fourth-round tie with Manchester City. His centre-back partner Cristian Romero suffered an injury on international duty last week and was released early by the Argentina national team camp.
Tottenham do have serious issues in central defence currently, with Radu Dragusin being criticized for his display in the 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town before the international break. As a result, the club are set to make a move to bring in a new central defender in the upcoming winter transfer window. They have allocated substantial funds to sign a new centre-back, as Ange Postecoglou hopes to bolster the club’s defensive ranks.
Now, according to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are expected to battle it out with Liverpool for the signing of Fulham defender Joachim Andersen. The North London outfit have the central defender on their wishlist as a potential option to bolster the defence in the coming months.
Juventus are also showing an interest in the Denmark international, who only moved from Crystal Palace to London rivals Fulham this summer. Joachim Andersen signed a five-year contract at Craven Cottage until 2029 (Transfermarkt), so the Cottagers will not be under much pressure to sell him.
While Tottenham have an eye on the 28-year-old, the aforementioned report adds there is no guarantee that he will end up being the club’s priority.
The Dane has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League in recent years, with his displays for Crystal Palace catching the eye of several clubs. Now at Fulham—where he spent the 2020/21 season on loan from Lyon—Andersen has started eight Premier League games and struck a strong partnership with Calvin Bassey at the back.
Andersen’s leadership skills, ball-playing ability and top-flight experience will no doubt be appealing to Tottenham amid doubts over Romero, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent weeks and months. If Romero is sold, replacing the Argentinean with Andersen would not be a bad idea. And at 28, the Dane is enjoying the peak years in his career and could immediately make an impact at the Hotspur Way.
