Former Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn knows that the end is near for Manuel Neuer, whether that happens in 2025 or 2026.
Per Kahn, Bayern Munich does have interesting options in Alexander Nübel and Daniel Peretz, but they need to show they can do the job.
“Of course the club has to think about what happens after Neuer. There are several options. For example, relying on Nübel in one-and-a-half years. He has to show himself and prove himself now. He now has the time, if Neuer extends his contract, to offer himself,” Kahn said. “You also have to see how Peretz develops. What is also typical in a phase in which Bayern has had such a goalkeeper for over a decade is that there is a transition where there is a little more fluctuation until a goalkeeper of his quality and caliber is there again.”
Bayern Munich could go outside the club to find that successor as well, but whoever it might be — they will have enormous shoes to fill.
