Tottenham suffered their ninth defeat of the Premier League season on Boxing Day
Tottenham Hotspur’s woeful season in the Premier League continued after they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day.
Ange Postecoglou would have expected his side to bounce back after the 6-3 hammering at the hands of Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, they didn’t as Anthony Elanga’s first-half strike was enough to sink Spurs into their ninth defeat of the Premier League season.
The visitors from North London were toothless in the final third, barely testing Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels across both halves. The defeat to Forest is a new low for Ange Postecoglou, who has come under a lot of fire in recent weeks and months for his team’s highly inconsistent displays. A certain section of the fanbase and pundits alike want the Greek-Aussie tactician gone too.
-> Jamie O’Hara slams Big Ange for ‘wrong’ Tottenham call vs Crystal Palace
TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara has been critical of Spurs boss Big Ange and his open style of football since the start of the 2024/25 campaign. And after the defeat at Forest, the ex-Tottenham midfielder seems to have had enough of the 59-year-old, claiming the North Londoners cannot just “keep losing games”.
“Come on mate, we can’t keep losing games like we’re losing every week now. It’s embarrassing. When was the last time that we haven’t lost? We’ve lost nine games this season in the Premier League. Nine!
“It’s only Southampton, Leicester and Wolves who have lost more than us. You say it’s shocking, that’s terrible. I just feel like it’s a broken record,” Jamie O’Hara told Jason Cundy on talkSPORT.
Big Ange’s rigidity to stick with similar tactics and style of play despite having several first-teamers on the treatment table has not done him any favours.
Legendary Premier League goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel slammed the Australian tactician after the Liverpool defeat last weekend, stating the fearless and open tactics did not suit his personnel and cost them against Arne Slot’s high-flying side.
Spurs tasting their ninth defeat from 18 games on Boxing Day has certainly piled more pressure on Big Ange. The injury situation has clearly not helped him but the way he has constantly set up his team without any tweak in tactics is worthy of criticism.
