Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz have become rather inexorably linked with one another. From comparisons due to their quality, to being heralded as Germany’s future, to being heralded as Bayern’s future, it is becoming more and common to see Musiala and Wirtz mentioned together in the same sentence. Inevitably, this meant that their names had to be mashed up together into one semi-coherent word. Because that is how the internet works.
Still, Musiala likes the name their fans came up with: “There were a few other names for both of us, so there’s a choice,” the former Chelsea FC youngster hedges, via @iMiaSanMia. “But I think ‘Wusiala’ sounds very good, and I personally agree with the nickname. You are welcome to call us Wusiala.”
It seems unlikely that fans were going to stop regardless of if Musiala approved of the nickname or not, but fans will still likely appreciate the sentiment.
