Jamal Musiala is on his way to becoming an icon. Having mentioned his desire to shape an era at Bayern Munich and the very public insistence from the bigwigs at Bayern on making Musiala the new face of the club, Musiala’s star, already so very bright, is still very much on the rise. Many football fans will grow up with the magician’s name on the back of their shirts.
But even the footballing icons have their own heroes. So whose name did Musiala have on the back of his shirt? “Almost always [Lionel] Messi,” Musiala says, via @iMiaSanMia. “I also had one with Neymar, but Messi was my hero, my favourite player.”
Yeah, that tracks. Messi is, after all, arguably the most iconic footballer of this generation. Musiala nearly got an authentic jersey from the Argentinian wizard himself after Bayern’s encounter with Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League a couple of seasons ago, but sadly could not make it happen. Perhaps he will have better luck in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup?
