Arsenal would be interested in the chance to sign an overseas player on loan in the January transfer window, but there’s no reason to believe it will be Randal Kolo Muani.
In light of Arsenal’s recent injuries to Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling, there have been plenty of calls for the club to sign a forward in the January transfer window, and it seems the club aren’t entirely against the idea.
Ryan Taylor reports for the Mirror that the prospect of signing an overseas player on loan would be of interest to Arsenal in January.
The Gunners can’t sign another Premier League player on loan, as they’re already hit their quota of two domestic loans by signing Neto from Bournemouth and Sterling from Chelsea.
One player who is expected to be on the move on loan in January is Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani, but Taylor claims there is currently no suggestion Arsenal will be pursuing that deal.
Kolo Muani is set to be offered around, but Taylor concurs with recent quotes from The Athletic’s David Ornstein who suggested that there hasn’t been any movement on that potential transfer yet.
“I’m sure they would have looked at him, and I don’t know of any pursuit on this occasion,” Ornstein said. “You never know, and I’m not saying this is happening at Arsenal, but January is largely a reactive market.
“If an opportunity arises for a low-cost loan for six months and a club such as Arsenal feel they’ve got the space, they’ve got the need, he’s the right playing profile or offers a different option to what they already have, and has the right character… then, okay, let’s have a conversation about this.
“That hasn’t happened with Arsenal to my knowledge, but I do think he’s one that stands a very good chance of moving.”
Kolo Muani started the season well, scoring two goals in three games for PSG before going on international duty and scoring another in a Nations League game for France in September.
But since then, he’s only netted twice more, and both times were for his country. As it stands, he’s not even making the squad for his club.
Whilst that makes a transfer likely, it also means he’s probably not a player Arsenal are desperate to sign to solve their issues in forward areas.
