Fiorentina have slashed down asking price for Tottenham’s summer target Michael Kayode
Tottenham had enjoyed a productive summer transfer window, signing some highly regarded young talents with high potential. In came the likes of Wilson Odobert, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, while Dominic Solanke arrived in a club-record £65m deal from Bournemouth.
However, there were a few players Spurs missed out on during the past transfer window. One of them was Fiorentina full-back Michael Kayode.
Michael Kayode has been on the North London club’s radar for some time, but earlier attempts to secure his signature hit a snag. Fiorentina had slapped a €30million price tag on the youngster in the summer, which Spurs decided not to meet and a deal didn’t materialise. However, circumstances have seemingly shifted.

According to Italian outlet Firenze Viola, Fiorentina are now willing to consider offers of around €15 million for Kayode in January—half the original valuation. This perhaps comes after the full-back’s lack of minutes this season.
The young gun has made only five Serie A appearances thus far—starting just once in addition to four substitute appearances. He had to wait until last week to start his first league game of the campaign, completing 90 minutes in Fiorentina’s 2-1 home defeat to Udinese. The Italy under-21 international has made a total of 12 appearances across all competitions, amassing 562 minutes in the process.
Given Fiorentina’s reported decision to half their original asking price from the summer, should Spurs revive their interest in Kayode? Definitely!
Ange Postecoglou saw his side suffer a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day and has been left with a lack of options at the heart of the backline ahead of facing Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend, as Radu Dragusin suffered an ankle problem in the latest setback. In addition, Ben Davies has been ruled out for the next two weeks after suffering a problem in his recovery from a hamstring injury in training.
Micky van den Ven, Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario are already sidelined, while Destiny Udogie recently missed a couple of games with a tight quad. Djed Spence was starting to make an impact of late before being sent off in the latter stages of the 1-0 defeat to Forest. Plus, Pedro Porro’s performance levels have dipped due to fatigue.

Postecoglou doesn’t boast of a large squad filled with quality options, and with him recently admitting that he doesn’t see Davies playing as a left-back anymore, the Lilywhites must look to reinforce the full-back position. As Spence is comfortable operating at left-back too, signing a right-back to compete and cover for Porro would make sense. And Kayode would be a smart option.

At 20, Kayode fits the profile of signings Tottenham have made in recent transfer windows. He is a young, dynamic and attacking full-back who would thrive in Big Ange’s high-energy philosophy. Also, the revised €15 million price immediately makes him an enticing proposition for the North London side.
All in all, Spurs must reignite their interest in Kayode and look to get him on board next month.
