West Ham are the worst team to watch in the Premier League under Julen Lopetegui and will be savaged by Liverpool.
That’s the view of one of Sky Sports’ leading football analysts as West Ham welcome the Reds to the London Stadium.
The Hammers have endured a terrible season under Julen Lopetegui so far.
Meanwhile Liverpool are the polar opposite under their own new boss, Arne Slot.
While Liverpool are leading the way in the Premier League and Champions League at the halfway stage, West Ham have failed to come anything close to pre-season expectations.
The Hammers went out and signed nine new players to the tune of £155m for Lopetegui.
Slot’s only signing was Federico Chiesa – who has barely played for the Reds.
But the contrast in style and results is night and day.
Lopetegui’s side are a tough watch and West Ham’s owners have made it clear performances simply must improve.
West Ham worst team to watch says top Sky Sports man
The Hammers are actually four games unbeaten going into the Liverpool match.
But they are extremely fortunate to have such a record with lucky victories in must-win games against Wolves and Southampton sandwiching fortunate draws with Brighton and Bournemouth.
The unconvincing run has kept Lopetegui in the job for now.
That may change soon, though. Especially as West Ham face a daunting run of fixtures including Liverpool, Man City, Aston Villa twice, Chelsea and Arsenal in the next nine.
In fact a heavy defeat against a rampant Liverpool will only pile the pressure on the Spaniard once more.
Well unfortunately for Lopetegui that’s exactly what is going to happen.
That’s according to a top Sky Sports man who says West Ham are the worst team to watch under Lopetegui.
Lewis Jones, who produces his weekly Jones Knows column for Sky Sports, is a top analyst for the Premier League’s leading broadcaster.
He says he absolutely hates watching the Hammers under Lopetegui.
West Ham have given up more shots at their goal than any other team in the top flight this season.
If that continues against Liverpool there will be only one outcome.
While other teams have spurned golden chances against the Hammers, Liverpool will not be so generous.
Liverpool to ‘feast’ on West Ham says expert
And Jones believes the Reds are about to “feast” on West Ham’s ridiculous defending.
“If West Ham turn up in the same welcoming mood as they did against Southampton, then Liverpool are going to feast,” Jones said, predicting a 4-0 defeat for Lopetegui’s side.
“The Hammers conceded three big chances in the first half to the league’s worst team in Saints and then basically made the game a non-event in the second half to grind out the 1-0 win.
“It was another mind-numbing and decisively dull performance from Julen Lopetegui’s men. In this current guise they’re the team I’d least like to watch in the Premier League.
“Thankfully for entertainment purposes, Liverpool are ravenous and purring beautifully in attack, scoring two or more goals in their last 10 Premier League games with 27 goals plundered in total.
“There shouldn’t be many problems for them here… This title is theirs to lose.”
That is damning of West Ham.
The Hammers have gone from a side top teams feared playing and one challenging for Europe to a team with no identity.
The over-reliance on reported Liverpool target Jarrod Bowen has never been more apparent either.
But the Hammers skipper can’t do it all on his own. Especially against a team like Liverpool.
Unfortunately Jones looks like he going to be proved right on this one.
This could get very messy indeed.
