Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster has been making way too many mistakes in recent games
Tottenham Hotspur fans were left extremely frustrated after Ange Postecoglou’s side let their lead slip against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday night.
The 2-2 draw with Wolves extended the North Londoners’ winless run in the Premier League to three matches. Despite taking a 2-1 lead at half time thanks to goals from Rodrigo Bentancur and Brennan Johnson, Jorgen Strand Larsen’s late equalizer denied the home side a much-needed victory.
Ange Postecoglou admitted to being to feeling “immensely hurt” by the result on Sunday, but he may especially be disappointed with goalkeeper Fraser Forster when he watches the game back later on.
Fraser Forster did appear to turn his back away from the action when Strand Larsen fired the ball towards the goal. Take nothing away from the Danish striker’s fantastic strike from an acute angle into the roof of the net, but the Spurs goalkeeper—standing at 6ft 7ins tall—should not have been beaten at his near post.
Speaking on BBC Sport Final Score, Stephen Warnock accused Forster of “not being brave” to stop Strand Larsen from scoring the equaliser from a tight angle three minutes from normal time.
“Fraser Forster has been done near post. The run from Jorgen Strand Larsen is lovely, as is the pass from Rayan Ait Nouri, and Strand Larsen lashes the ball as hard as he can near post, top corner,” Stephen Warnock said.
“Forster almost turns his back on it rather than standing tall and being brave. He should not be beaten from there.”
Warnock is spot on! Forster didn’t do enough on Wolves’ second goal. The ex-England international, deputizing for the injured No.1 Guglielmo Vicario, didn’t rush off his line quickly and made himself big to block Strand Larsen’s shot.

The veteran shot-stopper has had to step up in Vicario’s injury absence, and while he started well by making key saves in fixtures such as Manchester City, AS Roma, Fulham and Rangers, he has simply not been good enough in recent games. Forster has conceded 12 goals in his last four outings, including three against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in a forgettable individual display that almost cost Tottenham a place in the final four.

As Vicario is still a long way from returning, Spurs may be forced to go against Big Ange’s decision and sign a goalkeeper in the forthcoming January transfer window. Botafogo star John Victor has been linked with a move to Spurs in recent weeks.
