West Ham United are said to be keen to sign a truly top-class defender in the January transfer window.
The January window is now open, and West Ham have to ensure that we head into February stronger than we are right now.
One area where the Hammers really do need to strengthen is the central defensive department.
Jean-Clair Todibo is still struggling to adapt to the Premier League, and he has fallen out with Julen Lopetegui as well.
Meanwhile, it’s clear to see that Konstantinos Mavropanos is nowhere near good enough to play at the very highest level – Gabby Agbonlahor recently described him as a ‘terrible player’.
And it seems like Julen Lopetegui has a really top-class centre-back in mind to come in and bolster his ranks at the London Stadium in January.
West Ham in for Fikayo Tomori in the January window
AC Milan centre-back Fikyao Tomori is said to be firmly on the Hammers’ radar this month.
The former Chelsea man has been a target for West Ham for quite some time now.
According to a report from Calcio Mercato, the Hammers are chasing the signing of Fikayo Tomori in January.
And AC Milan are willing to sell him for just £21 million.
That sounds like exceptional value for money to me, considering his age, quality and experience.
Former Manchester City and Chelsea star Shaun Wright-Phillips once described Tomori as ‘outstanding’ and he’s bang on the money there.
The 27-year-old centre-back is a top-class player, and it goes without saying that he’d be a big upgrade on Konstantinos Mavropanos.
The former Chelsea man is incredibly strong in the air, and possesses decent pace. He’s an intelligent defender and his positional awareness is absolutely spot on.
Signing Fikayo Tomori for just £21 million in the January window would make perfect sense for West Ham.
