It’s not funny anymore. The ongoing, mythical striker curse that has plagued West Ham way back to Dean Ashton’s broken ankle is still alive and strong. Not only is poor Michail Antonio facing a year of rehab, Jarrod Bowen is sidelined for two months and Niclas Fullkrug, the latest in a long line of additions, has failed to make it through ninety minutes after his calf injury.
More recently, Jonathan Burkhardt who was linked with a West Ham move in the winter limped off last month forcing a Hammers rethink.
Now the club’s stated ‘number one target’ for the January window, loan signing Evan Ferguson, is injured and may not even be available for West Ham to borrow for the remainder of the season. Sportingnews.com bring the story headed” Brighton boss claims fresh injury could block January transfer to Premier League rivals”
Ferguson – who has a history of ankle surgery – apparently has a new ankle problem which could, as the report states, keep him at the club: Whether this is another bit of gamesmanship by Brighton’s manager to keep his young striker at home and fend off interest from other Premier League clubs, who knows. It doesn’t make West Ham’s recruitment in the January window any easier – if Ferguson is injured, plan ‘B’ needs some work- sharpish!
