Chelsea have just drawn 1-1 with Crystal Palace to continue their infuriating run of results. It was more of the same really – the Blues took the lead, then couldn’t get the second to kill the game off.
Manager Enzo Maresca let the game drift with his usual reluctance to make changes, and Palace soon found a foothold in the second half, and eventually levelled.
Speaking to BBC 5 Live after the game, Jadon Sancho revealed that the players and coach knew exactly what the issue was:
“I thought we played quite well and controlled a lot of the game so it was was very frustrating to concede late on. As the manager just said in the dressing room we just have to kill off the game in the second half,” a frustrated Sancho just said.
“I think if we got the second goal we would have been more relaxed and they would have come out more and that would have created more space in behind for us. That didn’t happen unfortunately so we just have to learn from it and move on.”
“We just have to finish our chances. We still created so many chances in front of goal but it is about getting the end product of it.”
Chelsea looked stumped on how to end frustrating slump
He’s complete right of course, but knowing what the problem is is only half the battle. It’s about what you do to solve it – and so far even in the course of this last run of 4 games we’ve seen little evidence of any move in that direction.
Sancho did his part today, setting up his team’s goal with a great bit of play down the left. But until we start scoring 2 or 3 in every game, these results are going to keep coming.
