Tottenham Hotspur have been struggling with injuries in the ongoing 2024/25 campaign, and the performances with a broken side haven’t been following for Ange Postecoglou as the pressure on the Australian head coach increases after the Lilywhites defeat against Newcastle United (FT: 2-1) at White Hart Lane in the Premier League yesterday.
The loss against the Magpies means Spurs are in the second half of the Premier League table, far away from their top four objectives, in the twelfth (12th) position, where the number of losses (10) is equal to their aggregate of wins (7) and draws (3). This showcases how Ange Postecoglou’s side has been out of touch in the ongoing season.
Injuries halting Postecoglou progress?
And former Manchester City defender Danny Mills has been discussing the Lilywhites season in the aftermath of the defeat to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United. The 47-year-old, while admitting the struggles to explain the inconsistency at White Hart Lane, went on to admit his feelings of sympathy towards the former Celtic manager, who is in charge at N17, with the Australian coach being on the receiving end of “horrendous” injuries.
Player-turned-pundit Micah Richards also agreed with Mills, insisting how Spurs have been unlucky with the number of players on the treatment table.
Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, Mills said:
“I struggle [to explain the difference; it’s been an absolutely bizarre season for them. They’ve had some horrendous injuries, they’ve had some wonderful performances, but they’ve come out on the wrong end of too many tight games.”
Richards responded in agreement:
“A little bit unlucky as well, Danny, you have to say. They try playing football the right way, with big injuries, and, at times, they’ve been a little exposed at the back, but today [Saturday, 4 January], I thought they did alright.”

Tottenham are in an awful run of form, and while you can blame injuries, the fact that the club is predominantly in a relegation battle (9 points away from the drop zone) shows how far Spurs have fallen, and with the pressure increasing on Postecoglou, the outcome of the game against Liverpool could determine the Australian’s future at White Hart Lane.
